Hey-oh, all!!
Monday, we celebrated Elder Boleks 19th Birthday with the
Comtes. We played games, (munchkin, and Colt Express, which, Mom, you should
totally check out. I'd say they were worth it), and had cake and Ice cream, and
just had a party. It was a lot of fun, and a good P-day.
Tuesday, we had studies as normal, then went to visit some
members, the Filimoe'ulie, I don't know how to pronounce their name,
because it's Tongan. Anyway, then, we went to go visit another family, the
Websters, who're having tremendous drama. They're ETSing, which means their
leaving the Army, and have to get all their stuff ready to move, and get rid of
things. That by its self is stressful. Add to that the fact that their 8 year
old girl, Mahala (pronounced like McKayla, but with an H instead of s K),
started having sever health problems and had been hospitalized since Saturday.
They discovered that she has type-1 diabetes, and I learned that if it's not
genetic, then it's caused by an allergy gone unchecked and the Antibodies have
turned against the body. Mahala was almost at the point of seizures, her
Pancreas was almost dead, and the antibodies had started attacking her Thyroid.
Thankfully they caught it in time to save her Thyroid. But, Mom, you might want
to have them do a blood test on Rene, and see what's up there, because it sounds
similar to little Mahala. She's only a couple months older than the twins, and
the doctors said that they thought she's been having problems for about 3
years. It could be his Wheat allergy, and I am now terrified that he's gonna be
on an Insulin pump if we're not careful. Anyway, we ended up staying with
Mahala for several hours because her parents ran to do some errands, and we
didn't want to leave her alone in the hospital. Her parents were very grateful
we stayed, but they weren't expecting us to still be there when they came back.
But we were, and that was where I learned the stuff about Diabetes. Sister
Webster has a book about it, and was explaining some stuff and I got scared. It
reminded me of Rene, and Becca. But I just wanted to tell you that, Mom, so you
know, because it really scared me.
Wednesday was crazy. We went early to the Church to prep stuff
for some of the German lessons we give, so we had to leave, like an hour
earlier. Then we had DDM, and ran for a bus to get to the hospital to visit
Mahala again. She's doing better today, but their still trying to figure out
insulin levels for her pump. They're getting closer, though, and her family has
worked out some of the other drama their dealing with, so, that was good. Then
it was off to the Rolfes to help with German homework, then back home for a
cleaning check, and then off to our Dinner appointment. But the bus never came,
so we took a different one, and ended up walking for about 20 minutes to get to
the base. It was a long day. But I learned that our patience is often tried to
help up grow, and that crap happens so we can learn things, and then use them
later. Fact. I've seen it happen so many times.
Thursday was also crazy. We had 3 member appointments, plus
running for Morgan Sport, travel, lesson, Zumba, lesson prep, and running
trying not to be late. And! It started raining at one point. It was just a fun,
crazy, busy day.
Friday, we celebrated Bobbys birthday! We went over to the
Comtes and played games and had cake, and it was a lot of fun. When they came
to sign us on, Bobby came down with Sister Comte to sign us on, and then drove
us back up to the house, and we got to ride in his Mustang. It was pretty
sweet. I'll see if I can get a picture:) anyway, Brother Comte made Lasagna-- homemade.
It was spectacular! We were all full for hours after that mess. It was great
Ooh!
Cool story. There was one point, between games, where Bobby was headed outside
to take a smoke, and I convinced him not to do it. I don't know how I did it,
but somehow I was able to talk him out of it, and tell him that it's all a mind
game and that if he wants to change, he has to decide, that it's all a matter
of breaking the habit, and that he can't let himself slip. He decided not to go
smoke, which was really cool, and I am super excited to see who this man
becomes when he finally makes a decision about Baptism.

Saturday was kinds slow. We did studies and weekly planning,
(got interrupted by the Stevens coming by to fix our bathroom sink, which had
started to leak. Then went over to the Hospital visit Mahala, but she and
her family were out and about, taking a break from the Hospital. So we left a
note saying we'd come by, but we'd missed them. Later in the evening, we met up
with the German Elders and Sisters and did singing contacting. We sang hymns in
German, like, "how great thou art," "ye elders of Israel,"
"o, my father," "there is sunshine in my soul today,"
"I stand all amazed," and several others, and lots of people stopped
to listen to us. We gave out a couple cards and a Book of Mormon throughout the
course of the night. Then it started raining. We kept singing. Fewer people
stopped to listen but they turned their heads as they walked by. After about an
hour and a half total of standing in the freezing rain and wind, we decided to
call it quits for the night. So we started walking home. Then, Elder Bolek
decides to start singing "children go where I send thee," by The
Nashville Tribute Band, and the rest of us eventually joined in. I didn't know
all the words, but I did my best. Elder Trippe sang base, I did Alto, and
everyone else sang melody, while we were walking, and it was actually a lot of fun.
I think we sang it 3 or 4 times plus a couple EFY songs, and the EFY medley
Army of Helaman/As Sisters in Zion while we took a round about route home. We
were all just belting it out, and people stopped and stared as we walked by.
Some of them clapped. It was really funny, and we decided we're going to
practice more "fun" songs at DDM so we can do it again. I'm excited
:)
Sunday we had a really cool lesson with Bobby, Sunday night. He
fasted, but was unable to come to church, but we talked to him about ordinances
and lesson 5. It was really cool, because he told us his real concerns, and we
were kind of able to help, but he kept, kind of, rerouting back to it. But I
felt the spirit so strong during that lesson; there was no mistaking the truths
we were teaching. I can tell you that the spirit testifies of truths. And when
you feel the spirit testifying, you would be crazy to deny it. It was amazing
to see him making connections during the lesson, though.
Subject line explanation-- we were on the phone with the German
Sisters, and Sister Hadfield made a brilliant observation. Sister Lyman was
expressing herself, and how tired she was, and Sister Hadfield told us that her
trainer would always tell her "well, it wasn't in the plan for
today." He knows what he's doing, and understands what we need. And then
went off on this beautiful tangent about trusting God, and how he knows
everything, and just comforted her and told her that the love we show is more important
than anything else. It was really cool, and very helpful. And it's really true.
I could not have said it any better.
Anyway, I love you all, and hope everything is going well for
you.
Bis Nächste Woche!!
-Sister
Montgomery
